Why NOT eating enough can make you fat

Every day I am approached by at least one person who tells me they can’t lose weight. 9 times out of 10 the next thing they say is that they can’t understand why because they eat a really healthy diet. My stock response is……."you’re probably under eating".

Let me tell you about Ms K. Ms K approached me because she wanted to get into shape for an event. She had a dress she wanted to fit into. She had been on a high protein/ low carbohydrate/ low fat diet and couldn’t lose weight and she couldn’t understand why.

"I’m never hungry" she says. I eat loads.

She consumed about 1000 calories a day. You should lose weight on that. Right? Wrong!

Here’s the thing, you might think you’re smart, but your body is way smarter. In the context of dieting and weight loss, this means that if you restrict your food intake, your body will simply reduce the rate at which it burns calories. In other words, your metabolic rate reduces.

If you are not providing your body with the calories it needs to fuel itself, your body will need to find energy from somewhere. I hear you saying "Great! That means it will burn my fat". "Wrong". It’s actually much easier for your body to break down muscle. So, the body doesn’t eat your fat., it eats your muscle. But this isn’t good because the more muscle you have, the more fat you burn.

What a wicked web we weave. In our quest to lose weight by cutting calories, we're actually sabotaging our body's ability to burn excess fat BUT DON"T WORRY! I can help you. It's actually really easy and I've helped hundreds and hundreds of women now.

So how did I help Ms K? We ADDED (YES! ADDED) an extra 600 to 700 calories to Ms K’s diet. Now that was the tricky part. Head games! It took about 3 weeks for Ms K to get her head around the extra calories but that's where my accountability system came into play. Fast forward another 7 weeks and guess what? She lost 4 ½ inches from her waist and 10lbs overall. She also gained muscle mass but that’s for another time. Look at that mid section and do you know what......over 2 1/2 years later and one baby in the bag, she's still rocking that body.
